Mallanna - Movie Download and Review

The wait has been long and far, the expectations were high. A blockbuster was supposedly on the cards looking at the teasers. Yes, we are talking about ‘Mallanna’ and now the time has come to assess how effective it has been.

Story

Mallanna (vikram) is a CBI officer during the day and he becomes Mallanna in the night. The latter role is to solve the problems of the poor who write down their problems in a piece of paper and tie it to the tree in the temple of Mallannaswamy. Mallanna is with the economic crimes cell and in one raid, he catches hold of all the assets of PPP (ashish). Subbalakshmi (Shriya) is PPP’s daughter and she decides to take revenge. She pretends to be in love with Mallanna and he realizes that. However, things change when the identity of Mallanna is revealed and PPP strikes a deal with him. In the meantime, Subbalakshmi realizes her folly and falls in love with Mallanna genuinely. Does he accept her love? What is the deal? All this forms the rest of the story.

Performances

Vikram carried out his role with elegance and though it lacked voltage, he fitted the bill perfectly. Shriya was sizzling hot and her oomph was used to the fullest, Ashish Vidyarthi was good, Krishna was okay, Mukesh Tiwari was underutilized, Prabhu was regular, Brahmanandam was not required, Y G Mahendran was okay, the others did their bit to contribute to the movie.

Technical aspects

The dialogues were weak, the script was written without direction and the screenplay was bad. Music was a saving grace but cinematography was quite jarring. Editing was too short and abrupt, costumes were a delight and art department was overwhelming.

Director’s portrayal

The director has come up with a good thought he has failed in presenting it to the Telugu audience. The narrative was weak from his end and also the sequence of scenes was disconnected, firstly he should have focused on building up the plot and then taking it to a smooth culmination which was missing completely. His focus was more on the style and presentation but he failed to give depth to the characters or the plot in an effective manner.

Critic’s view

The film could have been a blockbuster if it was handled well. The romance was barely there, comedy was silly and there is too much of the ‘Cock’ thing which kind of shows eccentricity than entertainment. Also, it was clear that the movie was missing elements that would appeal to the Telugu audience. While the first half took off on a very plain way, even the second half did not have anything special to offer in terms of stunts, songs or intensity of the scenes. The film would sink quickly. There seems to be a major lapse in the handling of the technical aspects as well, not even one shot lasts for more than 6-7 seconds, it is visually so random and disturbing.

Duke Chawla's life today can be called gratifying professionally he is a successful doctor, personally an ardent lover and parent to a doting dog Junior. Currently, Duke lives alone with Junior. He loves Nalini, who is career oriented like him, their marriage plans are in the offing. Duke has recently struck a deal for a dream apartment he plans to move to post marriage. Duke's research on cancer has recently been acknowledged by the American Medical Association. Each time his colleagues ask him on how he makes difficult surgeries seem easy, his answer is always the same he hangs on to HOPE and in turn gives his patients what most seem to have lost HOPE.A sudden turn of fate ends Duke's perfect world. After an accident he is paralyzed neck down. A bed becomes his boat and the hospital room his world. Nalini leaves him, friends stay away and those who want to be by his side are yelled at by Duke himself. He becomes bitter and angry at himself. Duke hates his condition so much that he wishes he had died instead of living in a condition which is worse. A man, who was an angel to many, looses all hope himself.Roshan, a young boy enters his life. Known to all at the hospital, Roshan is naughty and stubborn. He does what he likes. Duke hates Roshan in the first few meetings but then slowly Roshan wins over his heart. They both strike a common chord. What Duke really enjoys is the description of the view from his window that Roshan tells him. Roshan regales him with incidents of people he sees from the window, all the incidents are about people who win against odds because they remain hopeful. The whole experience of hearing the courageous tales everyday brings in light to Duke's dim aspirations. He gets motivated and inspired. Roshan and Duke become good friends. Roshan expresses his wish to save his sister Roshni of dying from cancer. Duke takes it upon himself to finish his research to treat Roshni. He restarts work on his research in every low phase Roshan appears to boost his morale and motivate him.In time, Duke gains sensation first in his hands and then his legs. One fine day when the doctor tries making him walk with the help of crutches, Duke makes an effort to walk to the window. He draws the curtains to look outside at the world which gave him hope and re established his belief in life. Shockingly, there's no world outside, there is just a tall boundary wall outside the window. The doctor reconfirms that the wall has been there for years. Duke enquires about Roshan's sister. The doctor tells him that it is Roshan who suffers from cancer, not his sister. Roshan lights the candle that disperses all darkness from Duke's life. He leaves his inexhaustible will to live in Duke, so that he can finish his research and save many other Roshans. He returns to Duke what he had lost HOPE. HADBAHEDI, a small but beautiful village/town, is forward looking but honest. It competes for resources and recognition with a neighboring corrupt town Triphla. Hadbahedians believe that they have been totally neglected by the state and seek an identity of their under Arun Bakshi’s leadership. Things brighten when Arun discovers that Rishi/Chintu Kapoor was actually born in their village 55 years back. They send an invite to him and he accepts as he is looking at Politics to make a comeback in a big way and Hadbahedi could well be his constituency. Arun leads the people of Hadbahedi to dress up the town to welcome Chintu.

Chintu arrives in Hadbahedi along with Devika Malhotra, a young, dynamic, smart and intelligent executive of the PR agency hired for Rishi's political dreams. Rishi is a nuisance at Hadbahedi and treats the innocent people of Hadbahedi with contempt. Devika however is able to relate to their simplicity and love for Chintu. Matters worsen when Chintu meets with an accident which immobilizes him and forces him and Devika to stay put in Hadbahedi. Arun and Devika get along well and their romance blossoms through the story while ruthless Chintu is falling prey to the tempting monetary and political offer made by Triphla. In the meantime an anxious Mumbai producer Malkani decides to finish his film featuring Rishi, at Hadbahedi itself. Arum mobilizes the town to help the guests in accomplishing their task.

Arun has a troublesome past he came to hide in Hadbahedi 6 years back! Arun's past continues to haunt his relationship with Devika, and to make the matters worse a person from the past appears in Hadbahedi! The town by now has started getting the media and government’s attention due to Rishi's stay in Hadbahedi. Arun leads the entire movement. Prosperity follows, and the urban vices become a threat to Hadbahedians. Several comic and poignant situations follow. Then Arun is witness to the secret meeting of Chintu with Triphla and he assumes that Devika is hand in glove with Chintu on this. Tensions follow but Arun and townfolk will not speak ill of Chintu as their own reputation shall suffer. Devika moved by the gesture, leaves Chintu and joins Arun. Through the film and at its climax the simplicity and goodness of the town folk is pitted against the selfish and ruthless behaviour of Rishi and other visitors.

Rishi with the tempting offer from Triphla, on one side, and Arun Devika with the townfolk on the other, are at the middle of a see-saw climax while concurrently Arun’s past unfolds for the audience.click the songs to download

Sanjana Rajpoot (Sonali Kulkarni), a police officer is flummoxed. Six months after a serial murder case came to the police’s notice, it is still unsolved. The serial murderer is still on the loose and claiming more victims.

Arjun Sherawat (Nasir Khan) is the suspected murderer and a mystery.

Sheetal (Hrishitaa Bhatt) is a press reporter and is passionate about her work. She knows the case inside out.

Rahul (Milind Soman) is another reporter who is following this case closely but is oblivious to Sheetal’s feelings for him.

On a tip off from Sheetal, a man suspected to be the murderer, is shot dead. Even as they celebrate the news, Arjun Sherawat re-surfaces and tells the world that his next target is a builder Habeeb Fazal.

As the narrative unravels it raises many questions. How is Sheetal getting the information on the victims? Is Arjun Sherwat committing these murders or does he have any accomplices? What is the reason behind these senseless murders? Is Rahul the bad guy? Will Sanjana outwit the murderer and bring an end to the bloodshed?

A sentence would do: Don’t watch it. But we would give you a glimpse of the painful experience of watching it – reason being, someone uttered in the theatre during the interval, ‘please give your tickets to your enemies, they would be dead’! The movie claims to make history in the world of cinema – for a blind man acting and dancing in it. With due respect to those who can’t see, this movie can’t prove anyone’s talent, forget history… Because we are here to appreciate acting, not sympathise. And the answer to its tagline, ‘Shadow: The dark side of truth’ is forget the truth, it’s just dark.

The philosophy of the movie follows Amitabh Bachchan starrer Aankhen, with a twist to it. Serial killer Arjun Sherawat (Naseer Khan) has no identity and police is going crazy behind him. Sanjana (Sonali Kulkarni) is a smart cop and is given the responsibility of finding Arjun. Sanjana tries her best to catch him for 6 months in which she fails. Sheetal (Harshitaa Bhatt) and Rahul (Milind Soman) are passionate journalists with two different media houses. There’s a scope for one sided love in the film, that’s Sheetal’s love for Rahul but Rahul is in love with his profession only. There is a police-criminal encounter, a lot of obvious dramas and so on… The mystery continues amidst lot of confusion.

Naseer tried to do a SRK in Don with his dialogues like “Namumkin ko mumkin banane ke liye hi log Arjun Sherawat ko Muh mangi kimat dete hai”. Milind Soman’s natural wrinkles did justice to him as a workaholic journo, but Harshitaa? If the character needed so much of mindlessness, Bollywood is not in dearth of it – at least give some beauty if not acting. And Sonali Kulkarni, the horror is back with some extra pounds. Naah, it’s not being meany – she needs to spare everyone the horror and herself those flabs.

Music was quite Anand Raaj style. Choreographer Ganesh Acharya surviving the team Shadow in itself is commendable. Director Rohit Nayyar makes a blind man play a gunman, on a serious note it shows his great spirit. But whether to watch the movie or not? Go for it, if you’re ‘absolutely’ jobless that you would kill yourself anyway!
